Working Principle of Disc Centrifuge

• Liquid-solid separation (clarifying operation) for low concentration slurry.
• Liquid-liquid separation (or liquid-liquid-solid) for emulsions (separation operation).

The disc separator operates as a vertical centrifuge with the drum mounted on the top of the vertical axis. Driven by a motor, the drum rotates at high speed. It consists of a series of nested disc-shaped parts with small gaps between them. Suspensions or emulsions are introduced into the drum through a central feed tube. As the suspension flows through the gaps between the discs, solid particles or droplets settle on the discs, forming a sediment or liquid layer. The sediment slides along the disc surface, accumulating in the drum's largest diameter portion, while the separated liquid is discharged through an outlet. The discs aid in shortening the settling distance of solid particles or droplets, increasing the drum's settling area and production capacity.
