The disc separator functions as a vertical centrifuge, with the drum positioned on the top of the vertical axis and driven by a motor for high-speed rotation. The drum contains a series of nested disc-shaped components with small gaps between them. Suspensions or emulsions are introduced into the drum through a central feed tube.
As the suspension or emulsion flows through the gaps between the discs, solid particles or droplets are forced by centrifugal action to settle on the discs, forming a sediment or liquid layer. The sediment moves along the disc surface, separates from the disc, and accumulates in the drum's widest diameter section. The separated liquid exits the drum through an outlet.
The discs play a crucial role in reducing the settling distance for solid particles or droplets, expanding the settling area within the drum, and significantly enhancing the separator's production capacity.
